Instructions
Blend together sugar, shortening and eggs.
Add vanilla and buttermilk.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into sugar mixture.
Add more flour as needed to make a firm dough.
Chill for 2 to 3 hours or overnight.
On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut out with cookie cutters; place on greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes.
Let cool. Frost and decorate as desired.
