Dinner Tonight: Grilled Tuna with Red Tomatillo Sauce
Dinner Tonight: Grilled Tun A mixture of eight-ounce tuna steaks, new mexico chile powder, salt and pepper, and a handful of other ingredients are all it takes to make this recipe so flavorful. To use up the honey you could follow this main course with the Honey Gingerbread as a dessert. It can be enjoyed any time, but it is especially good for The Fourth Of July. From preparation to the plate, this recipe takes approximately 45 minutes.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Combine the tomatillos, onion, and garlic on a baking sheet and toss with three tablespoons of the oil. Season with salt and pepper.
Transfer baking sheet to the oven. Cook until the tomatillos are slightly charred, turning occasionally, 25 to 30 minutes.
When done, transfer all the ingredients from the baking sheet to a food processor along with the habanero, chile powder, vinegar, honey, cilantro, and mint. Blend until smooth, seasoning to taste with salt.
Meanwhile, preheat a grill or broiler to high heat.
Brush both sides of the tuna steaks with the remaining oil and also season with salt and pepper.
Place on the grill. Cook until well browned on one side, two to three minutes. Flip the tuna steaks and cook until browned on the other side, about two more minutes. The tuna should still be medium-rare in the center.
Spoon some of the sauce into the center of four plates, top each with a tuna steak.
Recommended wine: Merlot, Pinot Noir, Rose Wine
Tunan on the menu? Try pairing with Merlot, Pinot Noir, and rosé Wine. Though fish is often paired with white wine, 'meatier' fish like tuna can absolutely go with red wine. A Rosé will also pair nicely, particularly if your tunan is prepared with ingredients better suited to a white wine. The Anthem Estate Merlot Mt. Veeder Napa Valley Wine with a 5 out of 5 star rating seems like a good match. It costs about 99 dollars per bottle.
